INTRODUCTION TO PROFESSIONAL WRITING FOR HOMESCHOOL TEENS

 

Veteran home school mom, Eileen Rife, offers a class in creative writing. A member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Eileen has published four non-fiction books, written newsletters, a marriage column, and over ten church dramas. Her byline has appeared in magazines, such as Discipleship Journal, Marriage Partnership, Mature Living, Christian Home & School, Psychology for Living, Drama Ministry, and ParentLife, as well as other print and online publications. Her fiction works include Journey to Judah and Restored Hearts, recently released by OakTara. Eileen is currently working on Chosen Ones, Book Three in the Born for India trilogy.

CLASS DETAILS

Age: 13 and up

Location: Lakeside Baptist Church, 447 Dalewood Ave. Salem, VA 24153 (Room 202)

Time: Two-hour class once a week, 10:30 - 12:30, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 26

Cost: $200 a semester ($50 deposit at time of registration)

First semester focus: Writing skills, various types of articles (i.e., humorous, how-to, personality profile based on an interview, adventure, inspirational, expository, persuasive, and seasonal), devotional writing, essays, debate, and research paper. Grammar is treated within the context of writing.

Second semester focus: Short stories, drama, poetry, research paper, character/theme sketches based on a classic, speech writing and delivery, exposure to publishing companies

Materials: Three-ring binder with notebook paper, pen or pencil, Painless Writing by Jeffrey Strausser (can purchase used online http://www.amazon.com/).

CREATIVE WRITING CLASS FOR 8 - 12 YEAR OLD HOMESCHOOLERS


Location: Lakeside Baptist Church, Room 202
